Can I Host or Lead a Group?
One of the most frequent questions we’re asked is “can I host a group?” And the answer is absolutely! At the same time, there are some things you need to understand about hosting a group at Parkview.
First, almost all of our groups at Parkview are started one of three ways:
- Many groups are formed every year in conjunction with a church-wide series (like 40 Days of Purpose which launches in October, 2010) where everyone is encouraged to be part of a group and it’s easy for lots of unconnected people to go online or come to the small group booth and find a group that meets near them or on the night they’re looking for.
- A good number of groups are formed at Small Group Connection events (our next Connections are scheduled for January, 2011) where new groups are formed and leaders are chosen at the event.
- A few groups are formed every year where a new host already has people they know are interested in a group. We do what we can to support this kind of group.
Second, you’ll want to note that although we love it when people step up to host a group…it rarely happens that we supply the members. Most of the time we suggest that people who are interested in hosting a group take advantage of #1 or #2 above, unless they already have others who are interested (which makes #3 possible).
Third, once your group is approved, we’ll help you set it up so that it’s on the groupfinder (a web tool that allows unconnected people to find a group that meets where and when they need).
